Extreme slopes

At the start of this large scale planting project, the scrub and weeds were cleared to reveal a 45 degree rocky slope! With a brief that included ‘dog friendly’ planting and tackling a south facing slope with thin soil, the planting palette was restricted! But we rose to the challenge, using a colourful array of shrubs, trees, perennial and occasional grasses, that has transformed the slopes, as well as being a haven for birds and insects.

Other areas of the garden received a more formal planting style with rhythmic topiary, inter-planted with perennials for seasonal colour. Bare walls were softened with climbers, whilst the entrance was smartened up with a series of topiary balls of various species, surrounded with alternating seasonal interest (and a few dog unfriendly plants as this area was not accessible!).
